Industry Standards Register for Kitchen Installers

The Kitchen, Bedroom, Bathroom National Training Group has launched the Industry Standards Register (ISR) and have asked NAPIT (National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers) to administer the scheme.

What is the Industry Standards Register (ISR)

The Industry Standards Register for the first time will give the individual installer the opportunity to match their skills against the National Occupational Standards for Kitchen Installation giving the consumer the confidence to know that their installer is qualified to do the job!

Installers have never had formal qualifications to date and by matching their skills to the National Occupational Standards they will have the proof they need when offering their services to employers as well as the consumer.

Why the ISR?

With programs like "Rogue Traders" Consumers are much more educated and expect a higher standard of work, and without being ripped off

To minimise the £80M worth of complaints about KBB installations reported annually

Its about Getting it "Right first time" and Saving the hassle of making a complaint and the time it takes to resolve it, which all too often turns your dream into a nightmare

Ensuring the installer is completely up to date with all current compliance, ie electrics, structural, plumbing and ventilation etc

Letting credible people into your home.

All registrants will have undergone a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check
All registrants are known to their industry peers

How do you ensure the job will be installed correctly and professionally?

By only endorsing Experienced Installers who have proved their skills over time in the industry and registered on the ISR Register.

If they are not yet registered you need to be telling them to get registered.

This initiative will include input from the iKBBi who have worked with the NTG to develop the model for the ISR.

To quote Drew Carter, Director, iKBBi:

"Our industry has long been without training and development that matches the needs of the professional kbb installer. If you have training and development programmes that supports new entrants as well as individuals at the top of their game you need something to hold this all together that recognises their skills & experience. The register (I.S.R.) does this and is another step forward in recognising that keeping on top of your game requires continuous development whether you're a sports professional or a trade professional".

"This is an exciting and major development in terms of raising standards for the KBB industry.  To ensure the success of the register, it is vital that the KBB industry and individuals working within it support this wholeheartedly" says Renee Mascari, CEO, KBB NTG.

Comment of support from the Office of fair Trading:

"We welcome voluntary initiatives that improve the standard of service and care that customers receive. Improving standards in this sector is good for consumers and good for business."

Kate Damania, OFT Head of Self Regulation.
