Can we really afford to ignore the recent changes in Building Regulations for much longer?

The changes in Building Regulations has become a big issue of late and since 6th April 2006 alterations to the regulations have come into force which means that they are now law, but having talked to various people within the KBB industry it is evident that there is still confusion and a lack of knowledge about the regulations and how they affect the KBB sector.

The NTG has been working closely with the National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT) in an effort to clearly understand which regulations have been changed or amended.

The changes include amendments to:
  • Part F - Ventilation
  • Part L - Conservation of fuel and power
  • Part P - Electrical safety
There are also changes to Schedule 2A which expand the self-certifications schemes to cover:
  • Part G – Hygiene
  • Part H - Drainage and waste disposal
  • Part J - Combustion appliances and fuel storage systems
This affects:
  • Electricians, Plumbers, Heating Engineers, Kitchen Fitters, Bathroom Fitters, Builders, DIY activities and everybody doing work in every building.
New approved documents have been produced for F, L and P and are in production for G, H and J.

It is vital that as an industry we understand that these changes are law and as a result we can no longer avoid compliance. We must ensure that staff are educated so as an industry we are up to date with the changes and working to the letter of the law, therefore complying. A course has been specifically developed which goes a long way in helping you understand the amendments and implications of the new building regulations.
